M14 Rifle Upgrades

The M14 rifle has a strong following as the best battle rifle of all time and spawned the popular M1A and SOCOM 16 civilian counterparts. The M14 has made a huge comeback in the US armed forces despite the Clinton administration’s best efforts to have them all destroyed.  Customers are purchasing more M1As than ever and adding new capabilities that transform it as a combat weapon.

Muzzle attachments have come a long way since the simple flash hider. The Smith Enterprise SOCOM 16 kit enables you to swap between a highly effective Vortex flash hider and an equally effective muzzle compensator. The Vortex flash hider has slanted slots that allow residual propellant to burn off and thus reduce flash, protecting your night vision even when firing full auto. The compensator has side facing ports, again in a slanted configuration to provide the maximum compensation and defeat muzzle climb. Both components thread into a replacement gas block and can be easily exchanged. Brownells sell a gas block wrench to accomplish fitting. The resulting configuration places the front sight at the same height as the USGI unit and you can either mount your USGI front sight or a more modern replacement unit like the Smith Enterprise tritium illuminated front sight. The flash suppressor and compensator are CNC machined from 8620 bar stock and heat treated to give a hard outer surface and a tough inner core. The gas block is made out of 1144 stressproof steel for the longest possible life. The entire group is then finished matte black parkerized.

The Amega Ranges M14 Scout Mount is a swap for the issue handgoard that bolts securely to US Army spec. M14 and M1A rifle barrels providing a length of MIL STD 1913 Picatinny rail that can be used to mount intermediate eye-relief ‘scout’ scopes, red dot and holographic sights. The vibration dampening effect of the mount often results in significant increases in accuracy. You can use the USGI open sights with this unit installed and it acts as a heat sink, absorbing and dissipating heat from the barrel. It can also take a flashlight mount of varying length on either side at 45 degrees enabling you to mount lamps, lasers or even another red dot sight like the Aimpoint T-1 as a back-up. This US made, brilliantly designed and engineered kit will enhance the appearance of your SOCOM 16 as well as its function.

Troy Industries are well known in civilian and military circles for their great range of excellent rail interface systems and fip up BUIS. Troy have also lead the way in designing truly innovative performance enhancements for the M14, M1A and SOCOM 16. The Troy M14 MCS or M14/M1A Modular Chassis System is a two part chassis with tunable bedding system that puts the recoil axis slightly above the line of the bore. This helps control recoil to the extent that muzzle climb is eliminated. With this stock a compensator is mere eye-candy. The lack of muzzle climb literally has to be seen to be believed. Rails are fitted at all four points of the compass for unrivalled flexibility. Unlike other commercially available M1A chassis, it offers a single unbroken length of rail at a uniform height making co-witnessing easy. The Troy MCS takes any AR15 stock or pistol grip and will fit any M14, M1A or SOCOM 16 rifle regardless of barrel contour. With this system you can have an M14 with M16 ergonomics.
