what are the laws about owning weapons for a collection?

from swords like broad swords and katanas to battle axes and shields?
im also from california in the bay area if that helps at all

Under U.S. law, weapons of that sort would probably be unregulated. However all states have different laws when it comes to weapons and California has some of the toughest, at least for guns. Check and see if you need a permit of some sort for your collection. You can check on the california secretary of state website for a link to permits. If it is not on their it should have a link to the agency that would handle that if a permit is needed at all.
