Should he have been suspended?
A first-grader in Delaware has been suspended from school because he forgot about his Cub Scout eating utensil (spoon, fork, knife combo) and took it to school. The school administrators are falling back on their “zero tolerance policy” and said they had no choice in the matter.
Zero Tolerance is a means liberal school administrators and boards established, not to protect the students, but, rather, to protect themselves from public criticism and/or legal liability. It provides them with the means to say, “it isn’t me, it’s the rules.” It removes from them the need to be responsible, and that is its real purpose.
Oh, yes, one more thing. As a punishment for this 1st Grader, officials have recommended reform school. Still more, “it’s not me, it’s the rules.”
No, this is crazy. Everyone along the way made the wrong decision on how to handle the situation..
Zero tolerance mean no tolerance for thinking on the part of those in authority..
