Is there a military unit derived of NON Enlisted men that do covert ops?

I am told they all bear an old english N on thier left forearms. I am also told that they never say they are in the military or have been and are called upon for various things from anti-terrorism, to fugitve capture…Is this true?
I was told this by my godfather who is in the DEA

no he is really a DEA agent I think he like to mess with me cuz he knows I m into that stuff

I am from a British Forces background…there is a lot more truth in this kind of operation than can ever be openly discussed
