Dagger Bowie
is it legal to OPEN CARRY a Long blade KNIVE in texas?
i own a MARINE CORP kabar knive not sure on length of blade. but it is basically like a bowie or survival knive has a sawing portion at base of blade and cutting portion for the rest. (one sided) so it would not fall under dagger laws. (thow i dont have a problem with people open carrying daggers and swords) would be difficult thow since they are so big.
im wanting to open carry the marine corp kabar knive on my belt. i want to know if it is legal or illegal to do that in texas. (i know texas has those stupid knive length laws like commiefornia) but there has to be an exception. since texas invented the bowies, and is famous for them. i would be in total shock if i found out they were illegal.
You can not carry, open or concealed, an “illegal knife”. “Illegal knife” means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;
(D) bowie knife;
(E) sword; or
(F) spear.
So if the blade is no longer than 5.5 inches and it is not double edged (part or full) than you can carry it open or concealed. What a dirk, stiletto and a poniard have in common is a double edge (from what I have see).
