what is the difference between damascus steel blades and stainless steel blades?

im thinking of buying a damascus dagger and want to know if its better

Damascus steel is a folded steel so that a mesh-like pattern is left in relief after etching.

There is no ‘better’ blade but I would think about what you would want it for.

A Damascus blade ‘looks’ better and makes a great conversation piece. A stainless blade is more for general use and/or durability. You can use it and it won’t rust. The Damascus blade you’ll probably have to keep it oiled because folding a Damascus style relief using high chromium steel is tough! It’ll probably be made of a plain carbon to medium grade steel.

No one fights with swords or daggers anyways. Get the Damascus to show it off. But make sure you can keep it in good condition. Don’t pay too much for it either. It’s Damascus steel, but True Damascus was lost centuries ago.
