The Power Of Self Defense
Campus crime safety: what you need to know Parents and students are fearful for their safety as crime rates on campus are growing. Due to this fact, before you choose the selected college of choice or high school for your teenager, be aware of personal safety, but make you young loved ones are aware. It is not enough for them to know that they have to be safe but also know how to protect themselves. Here are some things that both parents and children should have some knowledge about.
Self Defense Devices. There are various self Defense weapons available in the market today. These include pepper sprays, stun guns, tasers, pocket knives, and many more. Pepper sprays are the most commonly used as they inexpensive and effective in buying you time to escape. They are especially popular for women who use these when attacked by muggers or molesters. Stun guns are also practical. Now even if you don’t know any of these devices, there is always something with you that you can use to defend yourself in case of an attack such as a pen, car keys, or any other sharp object. Make sure that you always have something in your bag or purse that you can use in case you are attacked.
Good judgement and common sense. There is something in terms of a weapon that all of us have, and that is our basic instincts and judgement. Know where you are going and how safe that place is in general. Never leave your car unlocked for any reason, even if you’re inside. Always be sure that you are safely secured and that your surroundings are safe once you exit the car. Once you leave the car set upon leaving your car and heading for the building promptly and speedy, while always having one eye on your destination and another on your surroundings. Never take a short cut or walk through dark passage ways. Also, it is enough to think about reaching your target without having to think about your car, therefore make sure there are no valuables left in the car if so, always secure them out of visible sight or better still travel as much as possible without luggage or goods. Again, do not become an ambassador to be robbed; do not portray your jewellery as a fashion statement as the perpetrators will only see this as an invitation. Therefore, wear as little as possible or keep it well hidden.
Confidence and Strength Always appear confident and strong. Criminals target people who look weak and vulnerable. When you exude with that impression that you are someone they should not mess with, chances are they really would not mess with you. Always pay attention to your surroundings and keep an eye on the people moving around you.
Travelling with Companions Always travel in numbers, off campus or on campus. If it is not possible always use the public safety escort service while you are on campus. Atm machines are a classic area of attack. Be aware of who is around the atm machine; make sure there are other customers waiting in line. If there isn’t, be extra vigilant and aware. Yet again, be extra careful and if you need money at night, be organised and go to the atm at lunchtime.
Self Defense Training Learn self Defense tactics like martial arts training. This would equip you with defensive strategies that you can use in case you are attacked. You can learn self Defense by enrolling in a class or watching self Defense videos.
Partying with Caution Okay, the truth is one will never function in college without the ambience of a party or two. This is true, but this is unfortunately another prime spot for those who are willing to commit a crime. That is why it is essential that your night is planned in the essence that your route home is safe. Plan with your friends that you will all be leaving together. That there is a designated driver that is alcohol free, if you have to be driven home. Safety in numbers is critical, but at parties there is a lot of responsibility on your own shoulders. How much you drink and what you are drinking has to be your decision. Respect that everybody has a limit and you must know this as when we over do it, our senses are not as crystal as they are when we are sober. Our decisions are Defenseless and predators are well aware of this. Again, if it is possible to not drink that would be even better.
