Display Knife

Display Knife
Does anybody know what a display case of all of the original Case Knives (1977) would be worth?

I believe there are 88 altogether. I have an opportunity to buy such a display but want to make sure I am being offered a fair price.
Oops, I should not have written original. I didn’t really think that through. Also I just found out that they may be 1974. They are suppose to be all the knives made in that year.

Actual values will be less than catalog values, but before you could even start, you would need to know exactly what’s there. And I can tell you that there are probably zero ‘original’ knives in this group. Case was making knives for more than 50 years in 1977. In 1977 alone, they made 34 different models, with variations of some of those.

At this page for Case knives, you can look up values by year. But first you need the year. At the bottom of this page you will see links for dating a knife and finding a pattern number of a knife. Both are very important.

You would have to be able to examine each knife and write down the information. Then check eBay sold item values for the same item. From what I’ve seen, many of the true 1977 knives are selling on eBay for 75% or more of the values listed at this site, and that’s pretty good for modern collectibles, which don’t usually do so well.

If you can get a list of each knife and accurately identify them to the exact year and model, and you can get the collection for 50% or less of the total catalog value, I’d say you’re getting a good deal.
