would one of those rambo knives actually be good for actual survival, rather than just for display. How do they match up to say, a kabar.

Every knife has strong and weak points.
A large heavy knife is good for cutting
plant materials to build a hut or something,
while a smaller lighter knife can be tied to
a stick and used as a spear more effectively.
