Who were Ajax and Achilles in Greek Mythology?
Dx gave an excellent answer to which I’ll add some details … but really gentle readers surely your school or local library has at least one DECENT reference book on Classical Myths and Legends.
Given how crappy some of the online mythology sites are for Greek myth and legend questions you’re better off checking hard copy !!! A lot of them just copy from each other!
Achilles and Ajax were both Greek Rulers.
Achilles was the son of the demi goddess Thetis of the Nereids and Peleus the king of Thessaly and his mother by bathing him in the river Styx had rendered him invulnerable to most injuries unless some thing struck his heel hence the phrase Achilles’ heel.
There was two Ajaxes at Troy.
“Big” Ajax the son of Telamon and Ajax the Locrian prince.
There may or may not have been historical persons behind the legends.
The Greeks believed they were real people and who knows maybe some day they’ll dig up a Linear B or Hittite clay tablet referring to the “wanakoso akewiro” and the “wanakoso ayakoso” !
