Greek Warrior

What are some basic ANCIENT GREEK WARRIOR facts?
like what did they have to do as like law like i know at age 7 they would have to start training for war but like ya i need more facts! thanks:)
What you said about the age seven only applies to warriors of Sparta. However, I can tell you some facts about ancient Greek warriors in general if you want. The most common type of warrior was called the “Hoplite” which is named after the huge circular shield they carried known as a “Hoplon”. The most effective strategy for using the Hoplite in battle was to have hundreds of Hoplites lock their shields together to form a shield wall with their long spears extended over the shields. This technique is known as the phalanx, later used by the forces of Rome.
Of course, the most famous Greek warriors were those from Sparta, and I can tell you a bit about the Spartans too. From the very beginning, in fact, the second after a Spartan was born, he began to live a warrior’s life. If any baby in Sparta was born with any type of physical deformity, the baby was immediately brought into the middle of the wilderness, and abandoned as a feast for the wild animals. If a Spartan made it past childbirth, at the age of seven he began his training. The boys were trained to do a series of tasks and “games”, such as the game in which a loaf of bread or cheese was placed on a pedestal, surrounded by boys with whips, while another group of boys were forced to try to retrieve the food. One team tried to get the food, while the other tried to prevent their foes from getting the food.
The boys were actually encouraged to steal food, yet if they were caught, the punishment was severe. One of the most famous stories about the Spartans was that of the boy who stole a fox for his dinner. When the boys were immediately called to attention by their master, the boy stuffed the fox (who was still very much alive mind you) into his tunic and stood at attention in line with the others. The master was reviewing the boys, who were standing as still as statues, and spotted the boy with something moving in his tunic. The boy with the stolen fox stood just as still as the others, while the fox was clawing and biting away at his insides, and his white tunic was turning blood red. The master watched as the boy was slowly being eaten alive, yet still stood controlled and emotionless at attention. Finally, the boy bled to death, without letting the slightest scream or groan escape his lips.
If a Spartan survived childhood training (and you’d be suprised how many didn’t), he moved on to become a full time soldier.
Sorry that I wasn’t more detailed (for there are a ton more facts about ancient warriors), I can’t rant on forever. I hope this at least answers a little of your question, or gives you an introduction to the subject.

Live at the Acropolis $5.13 Yanni can be likened to 1970s rock group Emerson, Lake and Palmer. There are several basic parallels, especially in this orchestra-enhanced concert reworking of his more propulsive, anthemic compositions. Yanni, who in concert sometimes strikes the rapturous two-keyboard “iron-cross” pose that served as one of Keith Emerson’s trademarks, uses, as ELP did, classical and world-music influences to el… |
