Your wife has finished preparing the evening meal. Everything smells good as you sit down to eat. She might have a few things to learn yet, about cooking. Your steak is a little on the tough side. Do you eat it without saying anything? Perhaps you request a set of Husqvarna chainsaws, instead of the usual eating utensils. Think before you decide. One answer will mean a lovely evening. The other may mean celibacy for the next week.

Man has a history of complicating simple matters. All he needs to do is gently stir the melting pot of domestic harmony. What does he do? He uses a hand mixer to whip it into a frenzy. This is often accomplished by opening the mouth, before thought processes have taken place. You may do the same, if you so desire. It might be more advisable to not say anything and spare feelings. You may even try to say something positive about the situation.

There is another example to consider. You are with your wife on the couch. The television is on. She asks you a question about another woman. She wants to know if you find her attractive. Do you wish to ruin the evening? If so, blurt out your answer, before thinking. You will get your wish.

When a woman asks you a question like that, she does not want an obvious answer. Of course the woman was attractive. You need to mention that she does not measure up to the woman sitting beside you. The woman on television does not know that you are alive. The one beside you, can make or break your evening. Whom do you choose?

You will say and do the wrong things occasionally. She does not expect perfection. However, she expects and deserves an apology, when you do something wrong. Try to fix things before they get worse. For example, you spill a bag of potato chips. Do not step on them and make things worse. They make handheld vacuums for mistakes like that. Use the tools that you have to make things better. You may also try some prevention. Try not to talk until you have thought about what you are going to say.
