Practical Katana – Paul Chen Hanwei a good beginner katana?

i was wondering if buying this katana would be good for me as my first katana to buy or if i should just not buy it and any advice on buying a katana would be apreciated

If your going to cut with it, try swinging a 3 to 4 lb wooden sword at full speed and power for an hour. As with any martial art, you need good control, form, and experience before getting deep into application, sword included. If you are still set on buying a sword buy a metal blunt training sword and see how you like it. If i was to buy my first cutting word, I would go with dynasty forge. DF use more traditional furniture and pay more attention on the quality of their blades. It will run you around 500 dollars but rather pay 500 and up then buy several $200 hanwei swords. Hanwei blades can be good but their quality control has always been a problem as with each sword may be well made or a lemon. Expect to shell out 300 to 500 dollars for a decent hanwei blade. Just be prepared to repair/replace the fittings as they tend to wear and tear rather quickly.
