should i get contacts for SCA heavy combat?

i wear fairly wide glasses and since you probably have to wear a helm in SCA heavy combat should i get contacts to prevent damage to my glasses?

I would talk to the person making your helm, and also other fighters with whom you are training. See what they do. I know a lot of fighters who use glasses and you just have a helm constructed to work around them. Good suggestion about athletic glasses, they cost a bunch but are more sturdy and shaped to be close to the face.

Another downside of contacts is that if something gets in your eye, they hurt a lot! And it’s hard to stop in the middle of a fight and clean it out. Not a problem with glasses. If you get goggle-type classes to wear when fighting, they protect more against dust and such than regular glasses do.
