Viking And The Helmets
In the pre-medieval times, Viking warriors have gained its popularity. These days, there are numerous people all around the world who have begun their passion and interest of weapons and equipments that were typically used during the ancient times. When we think of all the eras that had passed, medieval era remains to be the most prominent as well as the most famous one. Its significance mainly relies on the armor, weapons and equipments used for the battle and wars. It was this time that big nations have already emerged together with their strong armies and their great military forces.
Among all the other nations, Vikings was one of the greatest. They were remembered as ferocious and violent people. Fighting techniques were definitely their own trademark. They were able to develop wonderful techniques that aid them in each battle and cruel wars. Vikings was actually Sacandinavian people from Norway, Northern Europe and Sweden. It has been said that they started raiding as well as expanding their own territory during the late years of 8th century up until 11th century. They had become famous for the long boats that cut in the water. Also, they were known to have dragon heads on the ship’s bow as a way to intimidate the enemies before they landed in the shore. They were able to land from Russia (far east) to Iceland (far west) and until Greenland and Canada’s Newfoundland.
Vikings were known to be the North’s terrors as they were strong men that generally battle down in the city. They were efficient in seafaring with advanced ships. In addition to that, they were effective tradesman and great constructors.
From the armor items they use, Vikings were popular because of the armor helmet. Viking helmets, one medieval shield, were generally used to provide protection to the head during the extreme fight. Warriors should always keep in mind that head protection is extremely important and must be given much attention than any other body parts. Therefore, helmets should be made from high quality products with strong, tough and sturdy materials. It should be able to last for many years to reap its benefits.
Does a Viking helmet have horns on it? Most probably, they do not have. Well, at least when they were in a battle. Of course, if they let horns to be on their helmets, it could only bring about negative effects in the battle. Like for instance, the enemy may easily grab it and have you thrown around in an instant. Generally, Viking horned helmets are worn during special events and religious festivals.
Most likely than not, the main reason behind the myths of Viking warriors in wearing helmets with horns is because they will definitely look a whole lot more terrible when they have it on. Viking warriors are intimidating by themselves already and adding this will make them look fearless.
