Is the french horn hard to play?

Hey guys it’s for my niece she want’s to join band next year and is wondering about the french horn here’s her info

- she’s 4 ’11 or 5’0

-she’s quite strong so the weight wouldn’t be a problem

-she has spacers but not braces

-she can play recorder

-she wants a brass instrument that’s not a trumpet

Also if its hard that’s not much of a problem she’s ready to practice and she’s 11 if that matters
she has good lungs[ lots of air] if any other details are needed ask it in a answer and I’ll make other details!

THANKS

It really not about all the things you listed. If a person doesn’t have an unusual amount of “musical hearing” horn is a lost cause. The problem with the horn is that it has more notes than just about anything and only 3 or 4 keys. So if you push down key 1 you might get an F, a Bb , a D or any number of “off” notes… so you have to hear them in your head before you play. Can be tough. have the director give her the “Selmer test” to see if she has that kind of interval hearing.
