Hunters Pal

Used in WWII and Desert Storm, the Woodman’s Pal is one of the 20 Best Blades of All Time

The Woodman’s pal has been available since 1941 and is not what you’d call a new kind of machete. The Woodman’s Pal has been included in civilian and military survival kits and is referred to as a “Type Four Survival Tool”—it’s a tough, no nonsense tool and an essential piece of survival gear.

Here are the Woodman’s Pal stats:

  • The Woodman’s Pal is crafted from 1/8″ of thick steel.
  • It has a resin bonded fluorocarbon coating to prevent corrosion over time, and it won’t crack even in below freezing temperatures or corrode.
  • The Woodman’s pal is designed for extreme strength and to hold an edge—it can cut and slit wood up to 1 ½ inches thick in diameter with one stroke.
  • The Woodman’s pal chisel sickle hook slices through vines, shrubs, briers, and any unwanted ground level growth.
  • It’s currently being supplied to the U.S. Army.
  • The Woodman’s pal balance runs from grip to the edge of sickle to create natural momentum—you get efficient, comfortable, and accurate motion.
  • The Woodman’s pal is safe—to reduce risk of deflective injuries, the safety toe extends one inch up the axe side of the tool.
  • The Woodman’s Pal is 1075 Carbon steel, tempered to a Rockwell 47 hardness.
  • It’s also family owned and manufactured.

This unique tool was created by a woodsman who wanted a compact tool for pruning, splitting, chopping, blazing trails, and other outdoor activities. What he came up with was the Woodman’s Pal. This tool features a leather grip, hand guard welded to tang and that’s a good size for all sorts of cutting. Made out of cold steel, the Woodman’s Pal is 1/8 of inch thick, has about a foot long cutting surface including a hook to grab brush and pull it out of your way and is ideal for vines and grass. The Woodman’s Pal comes with its own re-sharpening stone and you’ll find that it holds an edge really well. Used from WWII to Desert Storm, the Woodman’s Pal was military issue in Vietnam and included in an airman’s safety kit. The Woodman’s Pal was also rated one of the 20 best all time blades by Field and Stream magazine.

Handcrafted in Pennsylvania with all-American made raw materials, the Woodman’s Pal is useful for cutting through vines, chopping wood, skinning, clearing brush, and more.

If you are a forester, surveyor, member of a fire and rescue team, hunter, camper, pilot, boater, land manager, gardener, highway crew, flight crew, civil air patrol, law enforcement, survivalist, and or general outdoor enthusiast, the Woodman’s Pal is an excellent tool for you—and you’ll discover its many uses. Trim and prune unwanted backyard brush, blaze a trail, quickly build a duck blind, and use for any or all outdoor jobs that require an axe, machete, or hatchet—the Woodman’s pal serves as all three in one.
