What is the best kind of knive sharpening stone, or tool?

I have a few pocket flip out knives and a set of 8 1/2 inch throwing knives, I’m wondering what sharpening tool or stone would be the best for these. I’ve heard to stay away from the oil stones. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.. Also is there a tool or way to sharpen the the tip of a throwing knife or any knife at that.
