Japanese Samurai

What are those japanese samurai battle standards called?
in the film Ran, by Akira Kurosawa, the samurai have battle standards strapped to their back. does anyone know what they are called?
They are called 幟 (nobori), 御旗 (mihata)、or 旗差物 (hatasamono)and are used today in front of stores as advertisements especially for food (ramen, udon, soba, okashi, icecream, etc.)
To address the person above “Sashimono” means cabinet work. Most likely the armor your dad bought was the sort bought for kodomono hi as such it is not real armor, but rather a display set up in the family butsudan (budhist shrine) to pray for their small boys – that they will grow up to be strong like a samurai. As such it was probably made by a cabinet maker and included under the generic term to describe his wears. It does NOT refer to the samurai battle standard.
