Ask most riders about the Surly Cross Check and you’ll always hear one thing. You can do anything with it. Versatility and Surly Cross-Check are words that are often side by side in a sentence.

The Surly Cross Check was the third frame ever sold by Surly. And it really hasn’t changed much in the last ten years because Surly think: if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. There have been a few additions, for example the addition of mid-blade eyelets to the fork for mounting a front rack.

The bike can be built with gears or as a single speed or fixed-gear. It’s not built for touring all the time, but once in a while is fine. The front rack will make that easier too.

The frame delivers a comfortable ride – but that frame is also built to last. The simple fact is that this is a great bike for getting you to work. It makes your journeys in and out of town a total pleasure.” But equally, the Surly Cross Check will take you across country too, and is surprisingly good at climbing hills.

It’s built to last, and is amazingly comfortable. Everyone whose ever ridden this bike says it handles like a dream. In short it can do anything you wish.

Surly have made it easy to fit a rack and fender, as there are front and rear eyelets. The cross-check is in no way light light – but nor should it be. It’s pointless to compare it to an aluminum/carbon cross bike. There are, as my dad would say, horses of different manure. But one thing that has been said about the Surly Cross check, and we agree: “It’s the Swiss Army Knife of bikes.”
