Time and again, a female resident from Bridgewater has put the marvelous beauty of Shenandoah Valley on canvas. Apparently, this artist doesn’t just carry around oils and pastels to mountains and cornfields to capture nature’s beauty. She also paints using hundreds of different pictures from the newspapers. According to her, she can put back the color in an old fashioned way, which is black and white. Then she adds that clipping photos of animals and objects also allows her to gather them on a larger scenic painting. The mural that stretches 15 by 4 feet to her family room is actually a product of a newspaper cut-out of two millstones. All in the photo, including the riverbank, the millhouse and the grey mill wheels, look so perfect.

She also pictures parts of her masterpieces and gestures the large wall mural, even though she uses photos for detail in wood land animals, weatherboard building, and farm crops or equipment. She just uses water. It’s really not hard to paint with water at all, as it goes really fast.

Soon, she is going to start painting with a snow scene in one of the newest photo cut outs she revealed. Snow is fast and easy to make, too. Actually, she only has the mural and about two smaller scenes displayed around her home. But that doesn’t include all the paintings she made to sell and/or give away. Her items are usually sold through a Hagerstown furniture dealer in Maryland. When somebody, like a neighbor or a friend asks for her to paint, she does it willingly. It’s sometimes hard to keep track of all orders due to their sheer numbers. She usually gets quite a few rights around Christmas time.

A nice old lady from the neighborhood gave her painting lessons when she was 13, in their home in Rockingham County, Green mount section. Every afternoon she paid 25 cents to the old lady for a lesson. Her mother made her a small pallet using a lightweight weight board a long time ago, and she has kept it since. A note telling about how it was made was decoupage on the old pallet even though it was stained with paint all over.

Their family room contained materials from their church, which was brought down roughly about six years ago. One wall of the additional room is almost entirely made of glass, through which the afternoon sun shines brightly and through which the river by their house can be seen in clear view. She said they decided on the glass wall to bring the natural outdoors indoors.

As she was painting the mural, she wanted something fit inside the room. Her children told her the rustic family room and the bright foliage with rusts, red and gold did not mix well, so she had to redo the mural three quarters through completion. In order to direct the attention of her guest to the large mural on the family room, which encompasses all her love for painting, she decided not to add anymore pictures in her home.
