Korean War

Korean War
How did the korean war influence history?

Can someone give me a summary on the korean war and why or how it influenced history.

The Korean War was essentially a proxy war between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Communist Soviets lent aid to the North Koreans and the Capitalist Americans sent aid to the South Koreans. The overall effect of the war was to split the Korean Peninsula into the two countries that exist to this day: the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) and the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

The war began in the aftermath of the Japanese surrender of World War II. The USSR and United States agreed to disarm Japan in halves, the Soviets taking the surrender north of the 38th parallel, the United States taking south of the 38th parallel. The two sides could not determine how best to allow Korea its independence, however, with both sides wanting to take have control of the peninsula turned into the government that each side had for their own country. The USSR established a government in the North, while the USA established their own in the South. This led to conflict among the Koreans as they began to choose sides themselves. Eventually, the 38th parallel was extended through Korea to divide the country into the two separate sections that exist today, with the Communist government in control of North Korea and a Capitalist-democracy in control of South Korea.

EDIT: Just because I happen to know about something and it also happens to be on Wikipedia doesn’t mean I copied it from Wikipedia.
