How To Make A Bamboo Fountain Yourself

Having a bamboo fountain can add a certain magical ambiance to your home garden.  Bamboo fountains, an original creation of the Japanese, were made specifically as a device to keep deer away from rice paddies.  Therefore, it isn’t strange to know that they have been called “deer chasers”.

Additionally, monks would use the bamboo fountain as a method for measuring the length of their mediations.  In a time when more people are concerned about their impact on the environment, the bamboo fountain is an environmentally friendly material option.  This point does not detract from the fountain’s clear aesthetic charm.  Another perk is that the bamboo fountain is flexible enough to use indoors as well as outside.

Constructing a bamboo fountain is easy and takes just a smaller number of parts to build.  The parts for a bamboo fountain include bamboo, pipe, pump, base, screws, rod, and a container.  For outdoor bamboo fountains, you should use higher quality bamboo that can withstand various weather conditions.  People who opt to use the bamboo fountain indoors often enhance the strength and appearance of the bamboo by applying polish.  Other tools needed to build your own bamboo fountain include a screwdriver, wood saw, and a drill machine.

Once you’re ready to build, you should begin by cutting the bamboo sticks to the preferred length.  There will be three bamboo sticks in the construction.  A stick will hold the nozzle while two other will hold the moving piece on the bamboo fountain.  The moving part of the bamboo fountain will gather and remove water once the water collected increases to certain level.  Use a drill to put holes in the center of the bamboo sticks and the moving part.  You need holes in your bamboo sticks pieces because a rod will be inserted in them to make the fountain operate with pivot action.

For the second [phase] of construction, you will take a tube and connect it from the pump up through the bamboo.  The pipe will be capped by a nozzle made of bamboo.  Everything should then be mounted onto a base.  The bamboo fountain is in working order when it continues cycling water through the moving part, out of the spout and back in again.

If you’re kind of person who would rather it be mostly done for you, then you may prefer purchasing a bamboo fountain kit from your building supply store.

Lastly, you may want to know how to maintain a bamboo fountain.  Care and maintenance deal in two basic areas.  The first area is water pump care.  You need to have the water pump below the surface of your retaining pool when running.  Lastly, clean the pump regularly.  You must replace the water in your fountain on a regular schedule.  With fountains that run all the time, this cycle will be less frequent, but water should be to avoid foul smell due to stagnation.
