A Renaissance Fair Can Be Great Fun

Are you interested in what life was like a few hundred years back? Why not go to a medieval fair to see for yourself and to experience what the costumes were like? Renaissance or Medieval Festivals or Fairs are now occurring in various venues around the world. They are getting very popular.

Typically set during the times of Elizabeth I or Henry VIII of England, a Medieval Festival is full of costumed entertainers, musical and theatrical acts, games, handicrafts, food and often jousting and battle re-enactments.Elizabeth I lived from 1533 to 1603 and Henry VII lived from 1491 to 1547.

The Fairs try and take you back to a time where there wasn’t computers and television to entertain you, and show you the types of entertainments of that time. There could be acrobats and stilt walkers. There will surely be jesters. Travelling troubadours may be performing poetry or singing songs. Other forms of entertainment included games such as chess which was very popular, as well as checkers, bowling and blind man’s bluff. You can encounter all these kinds of entertainment at a Medieval or Renaissance Fair.

However, the best thing about attending a Medieval Fair is dressing in an authentic looking costume. The Medieval age covers quite a long period of time, where you can dress as anything from a medieval noble man or woman, a knight in shining armor, Robin Hood, Maid Marian, a peasant or even royalty such as Ann Boleyn, Henry VIII or Elizabeth I.

It’s not often that you can have the opportunity to dress so wildly out of character and a Renaissance and Medieval Festival gives you such a great chance. For a woman who wouldn’t want to look and feel like royalty in a beautiful dress with a tight fitting bodice to show off your curves? Then for a man how about dressing as a noble knight with his trusty sword ready to defend his woman? Why not let your imagination have free play and choose something way out?

For some ideas of the different types of costumes available take a look at my medieval renaissance costume site.
