What is mate tea?

Mate tea is known as chimarrão or one can say cimarrón which is a traditional South American infused drink.  Mate tea is made from steeping dried leaves of yerba mate by boiling in water.  Mate tea is considered as national drink in many countries such as Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay etc. Not only this in many other countries such as  Brazil, Chile, eastern Bolivia, Lebanon and Syria mate tea act as social practice mostly.  In Brazil mate tea is traditionally called as  “Gaúchos”, to  those people who were born in Rio Grande do Sul.  Mate tea do have caffeine .

Mate tea is given with metal straw withthe help of shared hollow calabash gourd.  The straw used in mate tea is known as  bombilla in Latin American , Spanish; as bomba in Portuguese, and as masassa in Arabic. This mate tea straw is basically made up of silver. Modern commercially mate tea straws are prepared with the aid of nickel silver known as Alpaca, stainless steel, and hollow-stemmed cane. After seeing the current demand of consumers now mate tea is also available in the tea-bag in the market.  In many countries these mate tea bags are known as cruz de malta and mate leao in barzil.

Maté tea is actually a wild shrub belongs to Argentina producing a delicious and flavorful tea.
