Are you trying to think of some top fancy dress ideas? Maybe you are going to a fancy dress party and need a costume or maybe you are going to hold a fancy dress party and want to set a theme? A lot of the best costumes are based on movie, cartoon or fairy tale themes, which means you can be imaginative as you like.

Some very popular themes include Disney movies as there are so many, spanning several decades. This means there are just loads of Disney fancy dress costumes to choose from, for both kids and adults.

Pirate costumes are a massive hit following the success of the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. You can get pirate costumes for girls and boys in all sorts of different styles, as well as specific character costumes, such as Captain Jack Sparrow. Pirate costumes are also fairly easy to create yourself with the help of a few accessories such as a sword, a parrot, a bandana, and an eye patch.

Another fabulous costume idea is a Moulin Rouge costume, based on a costume seen in the movie of the same name, which featured Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. Just think of feathers, fishnets and can-can girls and you’ll be on your way to getting a great Moulin Rouge costume.

Other film based fancy dress themes include the classic movie The Wizard of Oz, as there is a whole cast of well-known characters on which to base a costume. Dorothy is the most obvious Wizard of Oz character and the easiest costume but there are also costumes available for the other characters, the wizard, the Tin Man, the Lion, the Scarecrow, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. This is a superb theme as the costumes available are loads of fun and very recognisable to everyone.

Another popular movie theme is Star Wars. There are Star Wars costumes available for nearly all the characters so your fancy dress party will be fun and varied. From classic characters like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia costumes to more recent film characters such as the fabulous Darth Maul. Another very popular Star Wars fancy dress costume for girls is the white Padme Amidala outfit.

Another great theme is Super heroes as there are lots of them in movies based on comic books. This is a great theme for children and adults alike as again there are plenty of super hero costumes and everyone has their favourite. Some examples include Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Mr Incredible, Captain America, Iron Man, The Thing, Wonder Woman, Super Girl and Cat Woman.

There are so many fancy dress ideas based on films that the best thing to do is think of your favourite and create a costume based on that. If you choose a costume you like you’ll love wearing it and have lots of fun.
