Keeping Your Marble Tiles Beautiful

Marble is a stone commonly polished and utilized in fine building work, furniture, or decorative art, and may be white or colored. Marble is porous, and easily stained, or etched by acids. Therefore, clean off anything that spills on your marble as soon as possible. Try not to place beverage glasses on marble, use a coaster, because direct placement may leave rings. For some severe marble damage, you might want to contact a business that knows how to clean marble.

To prevent the absorption of stains into the porous marble, use a marble sealant. In order to avoid etching, do not let acids come in direct contact with marble.

Basic solutions will also be absorbed into marble and result in a rough marble surface. If you keep your marble tiles well sealed, you will be able to keep them clean with a damp mop. If dirt and grime does not come off easily, clean the tile with a mild detergent solution, then rinse.

If stains appear, do not delay in their removal. To facilitate the removal of stains utilize and absorbent tissue or towel. Moisten your absorbent cloth with a chemical stain removal solution, then rub it on the stain, next, make a paste out of whiting powder and apply it to the stain and cover it. If the stain is severe and deep, it should be covered for up to two days. Plastic wrap, held in place by masking tape, can be put over the wiping agent to keep it damp. Mix only enough for immediate use; A fresh batch should be mixed if a second application is needed.

Acidic drinks, such as fruit juice and soda will etch and remove the shiny polished surface of marble, so try not to allow them to contact it. Wipe up the acid spill immediately, and wipe the surface with a wet cloth. Polishing may be required for cases where the marble has become etched. If your marble had incurred severe damage you may need to contact someone with experience in cultured marble repair

Your marble may also be stained by oils, including butter, lotions, and hand cream, among others. When this happens, immediately sprinkle an absorbent powder, such as baby powder on the marble. Leave the powder on the marble surface for a brief period of time, then remove it and apply additional powder. Then, leave the marble alone for one day. Then scrub the surface of the marble using a warm detergent solution or wipe it off with a towel that is dampened with ammonia, the wipe of the surface with a clean dry cloth. If all the oil alkaline solutions are not removed using these alkaline solutions, try a solvent. You cam dampen a cloth with amyl acetate or acetone. Before doing this, ensure that the room is well ventilated. Make sure that there is not intense heat or flame nearby, as acetone can be flammable, let the solution remain for no more than ten minutes.

For stains caused by tea, coffee, colors bleached from paper, textiles or soft drinks. Create a solution that consists of twenty percent peroxide, and add it several drops of ammonia.

Rust stains are frequently the result of metal furniture or lamps making contact the marble surface. Use a commercial rust stain remover. Follow the directions exactly and do not leave on the surface for long periods as acid in many rust removers can etch the surface.

In most cases, maintain your marble by wiping it with a clean damp mop or cloth. Abrasive sand and dirt will damage the surface of your marble. Heavily traveled areas should be covered with rugs or mats to minimize this damage. Ensure that the underside of the mat or rug is a non-slip surface.
