Should I buy Palm Z22 Handheld or Sony Clie PEG-TG50 Handheld?

The purpose for me to buy a simple handheld is to do daily planning, take short notes for news words/phrases, shopping list, etc. I want to be able to write on it anywhere anytime. I noticed Sony Clie because it has a small keyboard. Can I write and save notes on Palm Z22 without being connected to a computer? If yes, do I use Graffiti method? I am new to handheld. Please help. I appreciate your advice.

First of all, you can write and save notes, appointments and contacts on every palm handheld device even without having a computer at all. It’s a fully stand alone pocket computer.
All palm devices use either graffiti or the onscreen keyboard for data input.

Both devices run (almost) the same operating system – Palm OS 5.

The TG50 has the following advantages:
- Bluetooth
- 16bit color display
- HiRes (double density)
- sturdy aluminium body and overall longer-lasting design
- Keyboard input is much faster than graffiti or onscreen-keyboard, but you better have small thumbs. This device was designed for japanese fingers.
- Keyboard is backlit, which looks quite elegant
- memory card extension

Battery run time and processor speed is about the same with both devices.

I’ve tested both of these models personally and have successfully recommended a TG50 to a study colleague.
The Z22 is a typical cheap beginner’s handheld, made of plastic, really cheap display (color tints, slow reaction times) and no possibility to enhance memory. Also the background illumination tends to be irregular and have color tints.
The body looks pretty stylish, though – and is especially more compact than the Sony model.

The TG50 is upper middle class. If you plan to use your PDA to the full extend – navigation software, photos/videos/music, have a sturdy device or just want to try some HiRes applications (imo the biggest deal breaker), you should choose the TG50. But then take into account that it’s an older model, with all its price advantages and spare part limitations.
