What is the best value shotgun to buy for my 15 year old son?

He is big enough for a full size shotgun and I want it to take him to adulthood, but I don’t have a lot to spend. When I was a kid, I got a Remington Sportsman 12 gauge (basically a generic 870.) Do they still make that or something similar?

Remington 870 express is the way to go IMO. Wal-mart for under $300. Cheaper is a single shot NEF or H&R, under $200, but he will get very bored very fast with that.
