Sharpener Stone
Electric knife sharpener vs. sending to a professional vs. using a stone?

I’d like some info on the pros and cons of each method… The more info the better.

Electric sharpeners are quick, easy, and wear down the knife edge more quickly because you remove more metal with a powered unit.

Professionals do a very good job, but you don’t know what type of method is used, you have to pay for it, and your knife is out of service for a week or so.

Using a stone is painstaking work, slow and repetitive, however it gives you a good sharp edge, with minimal loss of metal, and no extra expense, once you own the stones.

I use a Lasky sharpening stone set for my knives, kitchen as well as pocket knives, an electric sharpener for my chain saws, and a low-speed, wet grinding stone for hatchets, axes, shovels, etc.
