Three Supplies to Go Along With Your Pouch Laminator

Owning a pouch laminator is a great idea if you want a machine that can help you protect your documents. These machines are generally easy to use and can be to used to protect name badges, photographs, certificates, signs, and anything else you want to keep in great condition. If you have one of these devices or are thinking of getting one, there are some supplies you’ll going to need. Here are 3 of them.

1. Pouches. Naturally, you’re going to need to have pouches on-hand if you want to use this type of laminator. These supplies really just sheaths of plastic that will encapsulate your item after it’s been run through the machine. Pouches are available in many different sizes so you’ll be able to laminate almost anything you want whether it’s large or small (i.e. business cards, signs, etc.). Laminating pouches come in both matte and glossy finishes. Typically, you’ll encounter the glossy ones, but the matte ones are also worth a look since you’ll be able to write on them once your document has been processed. Finally, you’ll want to choose pouches that are the right thickness. The thickness of these supplies range from 1.5 to 10 mil. A mil is the equivalent of 0.001th of an inch and the thicker supplies will make your documents more rigid.

2. Carriers. One of the most important accessories for this type of document finishing method is a carrier. This is an item that resembles a file folder and you place your laminating pouch in it before you let it go into the machine. A carrier will prevent hot adhesive from trickling out of the pouch so your laminator’s gears won’t get sticky. Using a carrier is essential if you want to be able to use your machine for a long time and you can purchase them on your own if you don’t find one in your box of pouches. (Which is unlikely, but it has been known to happen.)

3. ID supplies. One of the great things about laminators is that you can use them to create name badges and the like for your employees, students, etc. Laminating the name badges will make them more durable so they’ll be able to withstand frequent handling. You can then use ID supplies to make the items easier to keep track of. Some of the supplies available include lanyards, badge reels, and so on. (You can even order customized lanyards that display your company name or any other information you want to convey.) If you’re creating name badges, you should invest in a good slot punch to make producing the ID’s a bit easier.
