Sheath Saya

Sheath Saya
Finding Katana Sayas and Sword Classes?

Does anyone have a site bookmarked that they can link me for a stand alone Saya(Katana Sheath)? What I’m looking for is a unique Saya for a Katana, Iv been to Gold Mountain Forge’s website and they have very nice looking ones. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Id also like to know if anyone knows which classes I should take for Katana practice. Iv seen Kendo but I’m unsure how that would teach me how to use a blade. It seems more like a sport with little learning of the blade itself. Iv also seen Kenjutsu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenjutsu
It looks a little more of what I’m after. Iv also seen Iaido(Iaito?). Not sure what it is though.

Kensei you are right about kendo… they don’t train to actually cut, and kendo has evolved into a sport with little to do with the actual sword. Iaido is little closer, being more of a zendo than a budo. Most iaido practitioners never even cut targets. What you are looking for is a functional kenjutsu/batto do system. Not sure where you are or what is available in your area, but you should research the following:

SHINKENDO
TOYAMA RYU
NAKAMURA RYU

Regarding your saya, these are generally made specifically for each blade, and differ with the blades length, width, and curvature. I am not familiar with any generic “universal” saya on the market.
