Sheath Sheaths

How do clean a horses sheath?
I have colt that is four months old. I was told I need to clean his sheath. Is this necessary if it is how do you do it?
Yes, I’m afraid it is.
To start with, you say he is 4 months old, how amenable is he ?
Will he let you handle him and touch him all over or is he likely to freak out ?
If you are in any doubt as to how he will react to this I suggest that you ask your vet to do the job the first time and you simply watch, see how it’s done and takes notes as necessary.
Here’s a handy website that will explain the whole procedure to you.
(I really do recommend the rubber gloves by the way).

Also bear in mind that however careful you are some non-informed person will choose the exact wrong moment to visit you on the stableyard – think up a good explanation before it happens.
