Smooth Knife

how do i polish a mild steel knife to a mirror finish?
i have a knife that i have made, it is shiny but its not mirror shine and i can see all the scratch marks from the angle grinder i use 120 grit but can still see them. befour i make the knife it is a dull blue sort a colour and it is pretty ugly, but when i get rid off it the scratch marks appear. how do i polish my knife to a mirror finish without make any sccratch marks? i got told to grind up chalk into a powder and add water so its like a paste, it made the knife alot smoother and shine a bit, not alot.
I am assuming when you ground your knife that you didn’t over-heat it? If you did, the blade will lose “temper” and change color, usually bluish. The proper way is to use a buffing wheel with rubbing compound. Rubbing compound in stick form, white and blue, applied to the wheel in small amounts will polish the blade. Keep the buffer cleaned using a fine, soft, wire brush and air blow the dust off the wheel. Start out with the white stick of compound and finish buff with the blue stick.
