Best Steel For Hunting Knives

A high quality steel-hunting knife will be made of either a carbon steel or stainless steel. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. With carbon you get the rust and only through regular use or waxing can you prevent it from happening. If you are not a prolific hunter, the carbon blade will not get much use, meaning it will rust and need to be replaced more often. The knife you take with you can mean the difference between surviving alone or surviving in comfort. You will want to take a blade that can be used to build a shelter if necessary.

A good hunting knife blade will be called upon to handle the stress of being used as a pry bar, a hack saw and a means of preparing food. A stainless steel blade can withstand all of the stress and continue to be sharp for a long time.

When it comes right down to it, choosing a hunting knife is a matter of preference. For survival in the woods you have to consider all of the possible things that could go wrong and what type of knife can help you through a bad situation. A Blade is not just a blade, and it is certainly of no help to you if it breaks when you need it most. With a stainless steel blade this is not ever likely to happen.
