Would it be a bad idea or a good idea to put an external mini-fan in my computer?

I am considering putting one of those little steel motor fans they sell for six dollars at Walmart and Target in my PC’s case to help cool my gear. I do not have the dough to cool it properly, but I want to play a few games. Is there any reason that I shouldn’t do it?
