What kind of knife sharpener should I use, and how?

For some time now, I’ve been looking for a good, universal knife and blade sharpener. I have blades ranging from simple knives and daggers, to curved blades, to short swords, to long swords… What I’m in need of is some sort of tool that I can use to sharpen any kind of blade (not serrated). Any suggestions? I once thought about looking for a grindstone. Would this be a good choice? Also, any links to good sharpeners on the market would be greatly appreciated.
