Shoud Your Diving Equipment Also Include A Compact LED Dive Torch?

If you are like most diving beginners, you would have ventured into your first diving class armed with only your wet-suit and bravado. It is only once you dive deep that you realize that its all really dark down there (except maybe whenever you come across glow-in-the-dark fish). Once you get your bearings, you would want to explore the underwater world, for which nothing is more ideal than a compact LED dive torch.

Though it may not be necessary if you are diving in the daytlight with a lot of sunshine, it’s wise to have a light source handy if you’re going to dive deep or into cloudy water. You can observe the colorful lifeforms around you without squinting in the darkness. You’ll be able to better explore the region and even venture into caves if equipped with a torch. It has to be fully charged so that you do not run out of power in the middle of your dive.

Flashlights are a very good way to light up your diving experience. You’ll be able to peek in those dark corners where some fish tend to hide. It is good to have backups for lighting equipment if you plan to do a night dive or have a long diving trip.

When going for a dive at night or into murky water, take a fully charged dive torch and a pocket flashlight as backup and make sure they are secured to your body or suit to avoid losing them. Although it is okay to use artificial light underwater, make sure you do not disturb the marine animals or other divers. And definitely avoid flashing light into anybody’s eyes.

There are some diving etiquette regarding use of light underwater. Directing a strong beam of light into a diver’s eyes is normally avoided for it might take them a while to be able to see. Aquatic animals may not enjoy the light and may try to swim away. So, it needs to be used judiciously.

Be careful when you switch on lights underwater. Most aquatic life don’t mind them but you can’t be too sure. It makes sense to learn beforehand concerning the local species and their response to intrusion. Also, it would be rude to flash a substantial beam of light into another diver’s, or for that matter, creature’s eyes. They might be blinded for some seconds and could panic.
