Vintage Bowie

Understated Natural Look
This year’s catwalk trends are difficult to sum up in one sentence as there are a vast range of colours and styles to choose from. However, it does allow us to experiment with a range of trends from the 1920s to the 1980s. Moreover, with the popularity of period based and cult TV shows, the vintage look hasn’t ever been so appealing.
If you want to capture the sultry 1920s or 1930s look, red or deep plum is your colour. These tones are a must have for anybody wanting to capture that vintage look. Make sure you use a good concealer and foundation for the lipstick to contrast against. This style has become popular with the success of TV shows like Boardwalk Empire.
The decade of hippie love and flower power brought about a big change to the fashion world. In Mad Men, we can see the more conservative and elegant trends set by former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. This was also the same decade in which Mary Quant designed the mini skirt. The late 1960s and the summer of love introduced bell-bottoms, hair bands and loose gypsy tops to the world. Darker shades of lipsticks started to become less used as the more understated look was the new ideal of beauty. Light pink lip gloss became the most sought-after shades. This look was accompanied with black mascara, dark eyeliner and eye shadow.
This style carried on into the Seventies and was mixed with actress Farrah Fawcett’s flicked out hairstyle. This fashion lasted until the second half of the decade. Darker shades of make up grew in popularity once again with the stardom of David Bowie and Adam and the Ants. This period in time was all about testing what had yet to be tried out. In addition, new styles of music like punk and new wave was heavily influential and dictated the way people dressed and applied cosmetics.
Over the past few years, pale make up has started to become more popular due to the success of vampire dramas like Vampire Diaries and True Blood. Here you have a choice of different styles to go for. Whichever one you are going for, the range of colour tones available in the Rimmel London collection, will help you get a look you will love.
